Malaysian start-ups expand their Philippine network with a market access program

Malaysian START-UPS can now maintain their ties with strategic partners, customers and investors in the Philippines following the success of the recently concluded GAIN:EXPAND PH program with the renewed partnership of Launchgarage Innovation Hub and Malaysia Digital Economy Corp. (MEDC).

According to Launchgarage COO Jojo Flores, hosting this third cohort program was part of their exclusive five-year deal with the lead agency responsible for boosting the digital economy in Malaysia under the Ministry of Communications. and Multimedia Malaysia.

Originally signed in 2019, the strategic partnership enables seamless cross-border collaboration, with MDEC as their exclusive partner in managing various market access programs.

“As we begin to recover from the devastating effects of the pandemic, we are pleased to be collaborating again with our Malaysian counterparts at MDEC to continue to co-host these market access programs, which brings value and accelerates their validation process when entering the Philippine market. ,” he said. While many companies are moving through pandemic-related challenges, Gopi Ganesalingam, MDEC Senior Vice President for Ecosystem Development Division, said they were honored to have had the chance to continue the expansion of start-ups in the Philippines.

“Before the pandemic, the cross-border collaboration between Launchgarage and MDEC initially created market access opportunities for Malaysian startups to expand their network and services in the Philippines and now we aim to see greater success from our first two cycles. We expect more deals to be closed and valuable partnerships to be forged through the program,” he added.

Designed to virtually host Malaysian businesses and give them a better understanding of the country they wish to expand into, the program offered webinar sessions by renowned industry experts on different topics such as an introduction to the ecosystem of Philippine start-ups, legal and regulatory compliance, digital marketing. , and investments.

Launchgarage founders Jay Fajardo and Jojo Flores hosted growth and advice hacking sessions. Deal flow and exploratory meetings were also held throughout the program to boost their growth and presence in the Philippines. A culminating event called “demo day” held virtually last April 18 allowed the cohort to showcase their businesses to invited partners, investors, media partners and government agencies.
